Some of Our Mentors and Friends
Simon Leach
Simon is a 3rd generation potter and famous on YouTube. We had the wonderful opportunity to get to know him personally and take a two-day hands-on-class. He chanllenged us to complete functional pottery with the smallest amount of clay, thin even walls to a specific height. It truly is a skill that he effortlessly teaches. He is so talented and such a character! Thank you Simon!
Bill van Gilder
We had the wonderful opportunity to meet Bill van Gilder, an old-school potter and participate in a workshop. Bill is a master potter who has traveled the world. He has a gift of story telling that keeps you captivated while learning. We truly enjoyed his workshop and got an opportunity to meet his wife Kris and take a tour of his workshop.
There are techniques we learned that have been incorporated into our own pottery. Thank you Bill!
Supporting North Carolina Potter’s Tour and
Visiting Clay-King While in the Area
We have met such wonderful potters and artists along the way. Many we have gotten to know from following them on Instagram and YouTube. That is how we found out about the first North Carolina Potter’s Tour and decided to support them!
Along the way, we stopped off at Clay-King to check out the local pottery supply store AND were surprised to learn that Mike Mahon AKA Muddy Mike, a very talented potter/artist, worked there.
Then we started the Potter’s Tour and met David Clark, AKA Mudslinger, a functional potter from YouTube, and Jodi Lynn, a very talented artist who mixes pottery with other mediums to create her own style.
We truly enjoyed the trip and the ability to support local potters we admire. Thank you, NC Potter’s Tour!
